Found an old Garlicoin wallet?

Your coins are still there. Here's how to get them back.

What did you find?

Before anything else

What is it worth?

At today's market price. Selling a lot at once may get less.

A wallet file (wallet.dat)

Open it in Garlicoin Core and let it sync.

Show the steps
  1. Install Garlicoin Core from the official site ↗, run it once, then close it.
  2. Put your wallet in place. Open the data folder: %APPDATA%\Garlicoin on Windows, ~/Library/Application Support/Garlicoin on a Mac, ~/.garlicoin on Linux. Rename any wallet.dat there to wallet-new.dat, then copy your old file in as wallet.dat.
  3. Speed up the sync with our bootstrap download.
  4. Start Garlicoin Core and let it finish syncing. "Rescanning" for a while is normal.
  5. Move the coins to a new address, then back up the wallet (File → Backup Wallet).

Forgot the passphrase? Only it opens the file; nobody else can. Try your old passwords with different capitals and numbers at the end. Never let anyone "crack" it for you; you'd be handing them the coins.

Corrupt or won't load? On a copy, start Garlicoin Core once with -salvagewallet. Still stuck? Ask in the Discord, but never send anyone the file.

A paper wallet or private key

Open the Garlicoin Wallet beta and choose I already have a key, or sweep it on our claim page.

Show the steps

Both take a minute, and the key never leaves your device.

In Garlicoin Core, open Help → Debug window → Console, type importprivkey, a space and the key, and press Enter. The rescan can take half an hour. Then send the coins to a new address.

Our gift card guide has screenshots; a gift card is a paper wallet.

12 or 24 words

Restore them in Garlium (Electrum-GRLC). Never type them into a website.

Show the steps
  1. Install Garlium ↗ and restore a wallet from your words.
  2. Point it at a working server. In Tools → Network, turn off automatic server selection and enter electrum.maxpuig.com:50002 or electrum.niftybakes.com:50002 (working in October 2026).
  3. Let it catch up. Then your balance appears.

Just an address

An address shows coins, but can't spend them. Look for its key, wallet file or words in old backups, emails and USB sticks.

Coins left on an exchange

If it still exists, log in and withdraw. If it closed, the coins are usually gone; anyone offering to recover them for a fee is a scammer.
