Proof of work

Garlicoin mined with scrypt at launch and switched to Allium after block 58,670 (February 16, 2018).

More details

Allium hashes the 80-byte block header through this chain:

  1. BLAKE-256
  2. Keccak-256
  3. Lyra2 (t=1, rows=8, cols=8)
  4. CubeHash-256
  5. Lyra2 again
  6. Skein-256
  7. Grøstl-256

The block ID is still the double SHA-256 of the header, as in Bitcoin. Only the proof-of-work check uses Allium. Source: allium.c ↗

Talk to a node

Add RPC login details to garlicoin.conf and restart. See run a node for where the file goes.

server=1
rpcuser=yourname
rpcpassword=a-long-random-password

Then query it over JSON-RPC:

curl --user yourname --data-binary \
  '{"jsonrpc":"1.0","id":1,"method":"getblockcount","params":[]}' \
  -H 'content-type: text/plain' http://127.0.0.1:42068/

The RPC is Bitcoin Core 0.18's. There's no getnodeaddresses and no transaction index unless you start with txindex=1.

Finding peers

Garlicoin Core's DNS seeds no longer answer (checked October 2026). Give a new node some addnode= lines from peers.txt, updated every minute.
