Bread Kart

A kart race in full 3D through Crust City by night. Three laps of a street circuit under the neon, past GRLC Tower, through the tunnel and over the jump, against five bread rivals: Baguette, Bagel, Croissant, Pretzel and Toast. Drift for a turbo, hit the boost pads, grab the gold cloves and beat the bakery to the line.

      How to drive

      Keyboard: arrows or WASD drive and steer, hold Space or Shift to drift and let go for the boost, P pauses. Mouse: the kart drives itself and the pointer steers; click to drift, click again (or swing the other way) for the boost. On a phone or tablet it drives itself: drag left or right to steer, and steer hard into a bend to drift. A gamepad works too.

      Drift through a bend and the sparks under the kart turn blue, then orange, then pink: let go and you get a mini-turbo, longer for each colour. The glowing chevrons on the road are boost pads, and the one on the ramp sends you flying. Gold cloves give a little kick of speed and 10 points each. The pavement past the kerbs is slow, and the barriers just bounce you back. Your score: 3,000 for a win (2,200 for second, 1,600 for third, then 1,100, 700 and 400), 20 points for every second under 3:45, and the cloves. Baguette is quick on the straights, Croissant drifts everything but slips up, Pretzel loves the twisty bits, Bagel never gets flustered and Toast is new in town. Built with three.js, so it needs a browser with WebGL. Add ?practice to the address for a quick practice race that never goes on the board.
